Aapne hame paida kyun kiya?

Amitabh bachchan – Every body knows him, very few know his dedicated love and respect for his parents. Following are excerpts from his writing….

“The avenues and opportunities open to the youth today in an economically liberated India were absent in the late fifties and early sixties. After graduation what? Where to find a job? What job? How? When? And the idealism and debate and the coffee house banter soon converts itself to anger. The anger of not knowing what to do with ourselves.

You look for answers. You turn to those that may have them. And in one ‘enlightened’ moment you get the answer from a fellow sufferer. ”why were we brought in to this world? To suffer?” That’s it! We should never have been brought in to this world. Judgment passed.

Angered, frustrated, strengthened and armed with unreasonable thought, I walked in to my father’s study one evening and for the first time in my life, with choked emotion, raised my voice at him and screamed:

Aapne hame paida kyun kiya?”

My father, immersed, as always was in his writing, looked up at me with some initial surprise and then settled down to more understanding posture and remained so for almost eternity.

No one spoke. Not him, not me. Not a sound. Just the measured clicking of the timepiece on his desk - and my unmeasured breathing!

When nothing came across from the parent quarter, I turned and left.

It was an uncomfortable night for me.

The next morning my father walked in to my room, woke me up and handed me a sheet of paper and left. I opened it. It was a poem he had written overnight – titled Nayi Leek (The New Generation)

Zindagi aur zamane ki kashmakash se

Ghabarakar mere ladke mujhse poochte hai

“Hame paida kyun kiya tha?”

Aur mere paas iske siwa

Koi jawab nahi hai

Ki mere baap ne bhi mujhse bina pooche

Mujhe paida kiya tha

Aur mere baap se bina pooche unke baap ne, unhe….

Zindagi aur zamane ki kashmakash

Pahle bhi thi, ab bhi hai, shayad jyada,

Aage bhi hogi, shayad jyada,

Tumhi nayi leek dharna

Apne baytoen se poochkar unhe paida karna.

So long as there is life, there is struggle! “Jab tak jivan hai, tab tak sangharsh hai” said my father, as he lay weak and almost comatose in his bed in Pratiksha.

The room is now adorned by his large framed picture, exactly where he breathed his last. Few months ago, he was joined on the side by my mother’s portrait.

Every day and every moment that I pass the room as I climb the staircase to my bedroom or down from it, I stop by the door and look at both of them. And ask for strength.

It is the light of his wisdom that I endeavour to carry each day when I step out!

We are lucky....Thanks God!!

This Pulitzer Price winner picture is photographed by Kevin Carter in 1994 during Sudan famine. A child is crawling on its way to a UNO sponsored food camp located about one km away. The vulture is waiting for the child to die so that……

This picture shocked the entire world; nobody knows what happened to the child including Kevin Carter, who left the place once photograph was taken.

After three months Kevin committed suicide. Following note was found from his diary.

Dear God,

I promise I will never waste my food no matter how bad it can taste and how full I may be.
I pray that He will protect this little boy, guide and deliver him away from his misery.
I pray that we will be more sensitive towards the world around us and not be blinded by our own selfish nature and interests.
I hope this picture will always serve as a reminder to us that how fortunate we are and that we must never ever take things for granted.

I AM READY, SWEETY...!

I AM READY, SWEETY…!

I AM PROUD OF PARSI - GUJARATIS. FEW NAMES….TATA, HOMI BHABHA, GODEREJ, RUSSI MODI, FAROKH ENGINEER, NANI PALKHIWALA, FIROZE GANDHI, ZUBIN MEHTA, SHAMIK DAWAR, CYRUS BHAROCHA, BOMAN IRANI…..AND SO ON….!!

PARSIS ARE PERHAPES ONLY COMMUNITY IN INDIA WHERE POPULATION IS DECLINING, INSPITE OF INDIA’S HUGE POPULATION, I WISH, IN THE NATIONAL INTEREST, WE SHOULD HAVE SOME MORE PARSIS.  THEY ARE NO. UNO NATIONALISTS, FAMILY LOVING, MINIMUM FUSS, GOOD LOOKING AND WITH GREAT SENSE OF HUMOUR.

ONE NAME MISSING FROM ABOVE LIST - FIELD MARSHALL MANEK SHAW.

WAY BACK IN 1971, PAKISTAN WAS AS ALWAYS VERY NASTY AGAINST INDIA, THOUSANDS OF REFUGEES FROM THE EASTERN BORDER POURING DOWN TO INDIA. IT WAS ABSOLUTELY NECESSARY TO HAVE MILLITARY ACTION.

IN A CABINET MEETING, MRS GANDHI (THEN PM) ASKED THEN CHIEF OF ARMY, MANEK SHAW,... SAM, ARE YOU READY? (FOR THE WAR…)’ I AM READY, SWEETY..!’ WAS THE ANSWER. MRS GANDHI DID NOT OFFENDED BY THE ANSWER, SHE KNEW THE WAYS AND MEANS OF MANEK SHAW. WAR WAS ON, HE FOUGHT BRAVELY, 90,000 PAKISTANI SOLDIERS WERE TAKEN AS WAR HOSTAGES, PAKISTAN DEFEATED, BANGLADESH CREATED.  BEFORE BANGLADESH, HE FOUGHT SECOND WORLD WAR AND HAD NINE JAPANIS BULLETS IN HIS STOMACH.

WHY I AM WRITING THIS HISTORY OVER HERE, BECAUSE WHEN HE DIED AT COONNOOR IN TAMIL NADU RECENTLY, NOBODY TURNED UP TO PAY RESPECT TO THIS NATIONAL HERO. THE CM, PM, PRESIDENT, MINISTER NOBODY HAD TIME TO SALUTE THIS NATIONAL HERO LAST TIME. SHAME ON THEM…CRAP POLITICIANS….!

HERE I SALUTE THE FIELD MARSHALL MANEK SHAW.

We get what we deserve......!

Noted Column writer Mr Shashi Tharoor says.....

"One of the striking details about nomination of Barack Obama as the Democratic party candidate for the president of USA is that he is the tenth nominee of the two major parties in the past twenty years to have graduated from either Harvard or Yale Uni. Past twenty years two parties in between them have only twelve candidates that means 83% of USA presidential nominees are from top two universities. Not to forget American Higher education system and hundreads top class universities and colleges to choose from."

So America elects the president who is product of finest education system and in comparision what we have, politicians without degrees, illiterate CRAP. No need to blame politicians for this situation. Our boys and girls from top uni. choose other fields rather than opting for politics as a career considering politics is good only for those having low moral values and where no place for honesty and other good virtues.

WE GET THE POLITICIANS WE DESERVE....!!

Zero Figure ....Six Packs....!!!

With the passing time, new words and phrases are popping up!  New and never heard before, now a day we are hearing more and more these two words - SIX PACK AB and ZERO FIGURE.

All young things are hitting the Gym and pumping iron to look as cool and as sexy as SRK, they want to have SIX PACK AB. It is nice to have healthy good looking figure but one need not to over do the same. However it is personal choice, how you want to see yourself in the mirror or how your love partner wants you to look like…!!

And babes are starving themselves for “zero figure”. Wafer thin body frame. For me, after seeing so called Zero Figured ladies, it is about only skin, protruding bones, no flesh, chalta firta skeleton…! Looks really not so nice, but then again it is a personal choice, how you want to look like and yes, how your partner wants you to look like, fortunately I do not have to have six packs to impress my lady love and same way I don’t mind in case my partner do not have 24 waist line and is more on heavier side, having curves at right places.…!

What is your choice…!!

Look alike!

Mrs Simi Prakash is a bored house wife, she was desperate to see somebody exactly look like her, she is not going to be satisfied with the mirror and photographs, she wants to meet her look alike, she wants to find out how time has made effects on her face and how bad or ugly she looks, she wants to compare herself with her look alike!

She asked her husband, if he has ever seen anybody looked like her, Mr. Prakash said, he never had!

‘Well’ she said, ‘I wish you would begin to look around and see if you can find some body, if you do find her be sure and find a way to make an appointment with her for me, so I can get a good look at her'.

Mr. Prakash did not take this seriously at the time, but after a week he saw a woman in the market who was looking just like his wife, as if God has created a photocopy!

He followed the woman, she was going in a mall, at the door, a man joined her, Mr. Prakash was experienced enough to note that both are husband and wife.  He followed the couple inside the mall, woman entered in a garment store meant for ladies leaving behind the stranger for some window shopping, Mr. Prakash has the chance to catch up and strike conversation with the strange man. He went and greeted the man, ‘Hello !’,  The stranger replied, ’Hello …?’ and looked at Mr. Prakash, trying to figure out whether he ever meet this man.

‘Well’ said the other man, ’What’s up?’ Mr. Prakash nodded foolishly, coughed a little and said,’ I do not want to be inquisitive but would you mind telling me that the woman who was just with you is your wife?’

‘I don’t think it any of your business whether she is my wife or not. Still I don’t mind telling you that she is, and been married fifteen years.

‘Thanks’, said Prakash, ’so have I and my wife’ he continued,’ My wife is as good looking as your wife, both are similar, like twins, you can exchange each other and nobody would notice, couldn’t tell them apart if you stood them up side by side and turn the telescope on them. That is the reason I speak to you. My wife is crazy to see another woman who looked like her.

The other man was very happy,’ My dear sir’ he said,’ you came to me today morning in the disguise of an angel. My wife is harping on the same subject since last six months.

The other man was Mr. Sinha.

A meeting was organized over a dinner. They also decided not to reveal the truth to their wives; they preferred to let them find out themselves.

The dinner passed off pleasantly. The two women studied each other with admirable tact. They exchanged pleasantries and waved each other off, The moment they got beyond earshot of the Sinhas, Mrs. Simi Prakash said,’ she is rather nice looking, don’t you think?’

‘Yes’ Said Prakash, ’I do’

‘You know what’ she went on,’ First, I thought she looks a good deal like me but when I studied her I found that resemblance was not so striking and there are many points of differences.’ She continued, ’my complexion is much clearer then hers, my lashes much stronger and darker, my teeth evener and my shoulder and neck better, and I hate to think that the lines and hollows in my face show up as plainly as they do in hers.’

‘Oh, of course she is good looking but she can not hold a candle to you.’

‘But you must find out some body who looks like me’, she said.

‘Sure dear’ he said, ‘he did not wanted to disturb peace in his family life.

Sinha didn’t show much enthusiasm to meet again and Prakash understood why…!?
